Doctorul Sinteză is an experimental audio-visual project from Timișoara that explores the meeting between electronic sound, analog image and live improvisation.
Active since the late 2000s, the project started as a solo initiative by Alexandru “Uțu” Pascu and later became a duo with the addition of visual artist Cristian Văduva. Today, Doctorul Sinteză builds immersive performances in which music and image are generated and transformed in real time, without the use of computers on stage.
The group’s set-up is based on hardware synthesizers, samplers, analog effects and experimental video systems, while the visual component frequently uses modified cameras, microscopes, video feedback and unconventional optical sources. Each performance thus becomes a living organism, in which sound and image influence each other and evolve spontaneously.
Over time, Doctorul Sinteză has collaborated with artists such as DJ K-lu and Petre Ionuțescu (Trompetre), giving concerts and performances in Romania and abroad, including in Krakow and at the Electroruga festival. The collaboration with DJ K-lu led to the release of the song “Lumină Sonoră”, and the project was also present in the opening program of Timișoara 2023 – European Capital of Culture.
Doctorul Sinteză proposes a universe on the border between electronic music, sound art, experimental cinema and multimedia installation, in which technology is not hidden, but becomes an integral part of the artistic act.
